QUIC wins human rights award
The Queen’s University’s International Centre’s (QUIC) English Conversation Group is the most recent recipient of the Queen’s Human Rights Initiative Award.
Each year, the award recognizes initiatives that have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of equality and human rights on campus.
During the program, volunteers meet with international students and their families each week.
The students practice grammar and pronunciation with the volunteers, who are Queen’s students and residents of Kingston.
An obstacle many immigrants have that the group addresses is encountering slang language with native English speakers, QUIC Assistant Director Susan Anderson said.
Nominations for the award are submitted in November each year. They’re judged on originality, positive impact on the University community, sustainability, and broad community partnerships.

Fraudulent Revenue Canada e-mail circulating on campus
A fraudulent Canada Revenue Agency e-mail is circulating around campus, International Student Advisor Justin Kerr said.
In an e-mail addressed to Queen’s University International Centre students, Kerr writes that some students have received e-mails from refund@cra-arc.gc.ca that say the student is eligible to receive a tax refund of $386.
Kerr said students shouldn’t open the link or reply to the address.
