Vice-principals (Advancement), (Operations and Finance) resign
Two of the University’s vice-principals in charge of fundraising and finances have resigned.
Vice-Principal (Advancement) David Mitchell and Vice-Principal (Operations and Finance) Andrew Simpson announced their resignations yesterday.
Effective Dec. 31, Mitchell will leave Queen’s for Ottawa-based Public Policy Forum, a move Principal Tom Williams said had nothing to do with the announcement of a 15 per cent budget cut or the Queen’s Centre being $41 million over-budget.
“I think people approached him with the opportunity to go and run a policy think-tank, which for him would be one of his dream jobs,” he said. “It was more the external attraction than anything from the inside.”
Williams said Sean Conway, special assistant to the principal, will serve as acting vice-principal (advancement) as a search committee is formed to hire a new vice-principal (advancement).
“I’ve asked Sean Conway, who has a lot of government relations and experience. He’s been a cabinet minister in the provincial government and he’s an alumnus of Queen’s. He has agreed to be acting vice-principal on January 1st when David leaves until we find a successor.”
In an e-mail to faculty and staff, Williams said Simpson’s resignation will be effective immediately.
“Bill Bryck, a Chartered Accountant with nearly 30 years of business experience and a proven track record as a builder of successful organizations, has agreed to be Acting Vice-Principal (Operations and Finance) while a search is underway for a replacement for Andrew Simpson.”
