Queen’s Centre road closures begin

Street closures for Queen’s Centre construction began on Monday in order to accommodate the

re-routing of underground services that are making way for the $230-million student-life centre.

Division Street from Union Street to Earl Street and Union Street from Arch Street to Division Street are scheduled to be closed until April 27, with several other segments of Union Street, Division Street and University Avenue scheduled to close later this year.

Ivan McKeen, Physical Plant Services (PPS) administration support manager, said PPS doesn’t yet know when utilities will be shut down for buildings immediately surrounding the construction, or which houses specifically will be affected. “We’ll have to have electrical shutdowns and other kinds of shutdowns, but at this stage that’s impossible to really predict because you don’t know what you’re going to run into.

“We will be giving people notice as we move along and as services need to either be restricted or shut

down we’ll let people know.”

Clergy Street is currently closed to all but local traffic. McKeen said deliveries to the back entrance of

the JDUC will probably continue until May.
