Student assaulted on campus
At approximately 2:50 p.m. on March 2, a female student was assaulted while walking on campus near the Campus Bookstore. According to an alert posted by Campus Security, the student was grabbed by a male assailant and pushed to the ground. The student was able to break free from his grasp and ran to a residence building without being followed. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 22 years old. He has short, dark, spiky hair and is clean-shaven. He didn’t have any visible piercings or tattoos. The suspect was described as wearing a black three-quarter-length North Face jacket with a fur trim around the collar. Anyone with information about this assault, or who has experienced a similar incident should contact Queen’s Emergency Report Centre at 533-6111 or the Kingston Police Department at 549-4660.
University may rent ice at Memorial Centre
The University doesn’t want to miss a moment of ice time when Jock Harty Arena is demolished to make way for the construction of the Queen’s Centre.
Administrators have asked the city for permission to lease the Memorial Centre ice rink to temporarily house its hockey teams and skaters. City council met on Tuesday night with the Memorial Centre Revitalization Committee about drafting a report on the financial and ice-time effects of the possible arrangement. Andrew Simpson, vice-principal (operations), told The Kingston Whig-Standard he hoped to have an ice option guaranteed for September 2007. Simpson said the University is considering other options, including using a rink at the Royal Military College. Any option would need to house school’s many varsity and intramural teams and clubs for at least five years.
