Money from McGuinty

The provincial government has granted Queen’s University $3.7 million, in the form of awards for 27 different projects.

The money was announced Thursday by John Gerretsen, MPP for Kingston and the Islands, on behalf of Premier Dalton McGuinty who oversees the Ministry of Research and Innovation, which awarded the money.

These projects include a Bioorganic and Physical Organic Research Laboratory, a Developmental Psycholinguistics Research Facility and a Sexual Health Research Facility.

One project that will receive $250,000 is the construction of a laboratory to study the clay slopes of Ontario’s highways and railways, as well as determine how to strengthen the slope against seasonal erosion and serious disruptions such as landslides.

The money given to the University is a portion of $48 million from the newly formed Ontario Research Fund, which is mandated to support 312 projects at 20 research institutions across the province.
