University gets new cash from province

The University received a financial boost last week with a new $9.1 million investment from the provincial government. The money, announced on Sept. 8, is part of the $250 million designated for colleges and universities this year by Chris Bentley, minister of training, colleges and universities.

According to a release, the money will be invested in greater energy efficiency, continued maintenance and enhancement of classrooms, improving the appearance of buildings on campus, in addition to other initiatives.

“This support from government is an important contribution to providing a better learning environment,” said Principal Karen Hitchcock in a statement. “It will help us catch up on maintenance projects and accommodate our growing numbers of students with more space and the latest technology.”

St. Lawrence College will also receive $3.8 million dollars to be put towards improvements in their culinary programs and upgrades on their multiple campuses.
