Recognition for School of Business
The Queen’s School of Business received its highest ranking ever in the annual survey conducted by the Financial Times, placing 17th for its Open Executive programs. These programs are unique in that they are open to all executives and cover a wide variety of financial subjects. This ranking marks an improvement over the past two years, when Queen’s placed 22 and 29. Queen’s is the only Canadian school to have appeared on the list three years in a row.
Performance based Provincial grants The Ontario government plans to pour an additional $72 million into colleges and universities as a way of coping with increased enrolment and the impending double high school cohort in 2003. The province will provide a total of $2.5 billion in operating grants for post-secondary institutions in 2001-2002. A portion of the grants will be based on a school’s performance in areas like post-graduation employment rates.
CIDA Donation
The Queen’s International Centre for Advancement of Community Based Rehabilitation has received a $1.57 million grant from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) for three projects in Central and Eastern Europe. The Centre provides community-based rehabilitation to the disabled in war-torn countries around the globe and is one of the leaders in post-conflict rehabilitation.
Family Law Conference
Queen’s hosted the North American Regional Conference of the International Society of Family Law two weeks ago. The conference, held with the support of the Law Commission of Canada and Queen’s Faculty of Law, touched on same-sex and unmarried cohabitation, reproductive technology, and an extended legal definition of the child-parent relationship.
