The search for Queen’s next provost and vice-principal (Academic) is over, the University announced Wednesday.
In a Nov. 27 press release, Principal Patrick Deane announced Mark F. Green will serve as the University’s next provost and vice-principal (Academic) starting March 1, 2020, replacing current Interim Provost Tom Harris.
Green (Sci ’87), who currently serves as the vice-dean of Graduate Studies and Recruitment at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, comes to the role as a former acting associate academic dean and associate head in the Department of Civil Engineering.
“It is a great privilege to accept this opportunity here at Queen’s, a place that has served as the backdrop for much of my educational and professional life,” Green said in the press release.
Green completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Engineering in 1987 at Queen’s, where he also won the Governor General’s Medal for graduating first in his class. After completing a PhD at the University of Cambridge in 1991, he returned to Queen’s as a post-doctoral fellow and became a full professor in 2001.
“Queen’s is an exceptional institution with an incredible community of students, staff, faculty, and alumni, and I look forward to working together with them in my new role as Provost,” Green said.
A member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, Green has held leadership positions including co-chair of the Queen’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Task Force and chair of the First Nations Technical Institute.
“At a time when the University is embarking on a new vision, Dr. Green’s widely known and acknowledged ability to engage and lead others through consensus will be invaluable,” Deane said in the press release.
