Queen’s Football is looking to keep the good times rollin’ into Carleton.
The Gaels will travel to Carleton University on Sept. 19 to take on the Ravens on the banks of the Rideau Canal. The Ravens currently sit at the bottom of the OUA, with a record of 0-3. They are coming off a large defeat that saw the Guelph Gryphons score eight touchdowns, propelling them to a 60-15 victory.
Queen’s is coming into the game with their first 2-0 start of the season since 2022, looking for their first 3-0 start since 2021 when they marched all the way to the Yates Cup.
Head Coach Steve Snyder in his weekly media availability talked about the importance of continuing to get better in all aspects of the game.
“All three phases right now, I think the guys are enjoying seeing the results of getting better,” Snyder said. “We’re certainly progressing and we’re a better team than we were [a week ago].”
Despite Carleton’s record, Snyder is not worried about that being an issue.
“We always ground our team every single week in the preparation required because of the threat that’s being posed,” he said. “When you turn on the film, you see good football players and a good football team regardless of record.”
With the Gaels being so close to Carleton, they will travel there on the same day, something that may be seen as a disadvantage to some.
For Defensive Back Iain St. Arnault, ArtSci ’28, it doesn’t seem to bother him. In the same media availability, St. Arnault described his process before the game.
“We get to sleep in our bed the night before [which] is very beneficial, then up at 6 a.m. for a nice breakfast and we’ll be good to go.”
St. Arnault has become a leader in this young Gaels secondary, and he believes communication will be the key to their success.
“I think our communication is getting better each week, its so important on any team,” St. Arnault said. “Obviously, there’s guys who don’t have a lot of experience but that’s part of the game, we’re growing every single week.”
On the offensive end, Wide Reciever Logan Walton, ArtSci, ’29, is looking to build off his two touch-down game against Waterloo. Also in the same media availability, Walton talked about how exciting it is to play with the dynamic receiving core.
“We love seeing each other do good and we’re so close, so it’s very easy.”
The Gaels will head out early Saturday morning, looking to continue their hot start and defend their Yates Cup.
