The University has announced that Mark Green, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic), will be stepping down from the role on Jul. 1.
Principal Patrick Deane said in a letter that Green’s decision was “personal,” thanking him for his two-year dedication to the role. Green will be returning to teaching in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
In a letter to faculty, Green thanked them for their support and guidance. He said he made his decision to step down after consulting with family about how much time and energy the role has taken throughout his tenure.
“The last two years have been extremely busy, challenging, and rewarding, and I am so proud of the way the Queen’s team has stepped up to face these challenges together,” Green wrote.
“Even though the focus has been on COVID-19 and keeping the university safe, I am proud of a number of important initiatives that we have been able to accomplish during these difficult times.”
Green expressed his commitment to Queen’s will remain the same as he continues his research.
“I am looking forward to continuing my research, my work to improve equity, diversity, and Indigenization in academia, and most importantly, my teaching, something I have truly missed while serving in this role,” Green said.
“I wish the very best for everyone.”
Teri Shearer, Deputy Provost (Academic Operations), will serve as the interim Provost starting Jul.1.
