Queen’s server experiences extended outage, affecting SOLUS

The server went offline on Sunday, the same day open enrolment began on SOLUS

The Queen’s server experienced an extended outage on Sunday, the same day students expected to log on to SOLUS for open enrolment.

The server went offline on Sunday shortly after 12 p.m.

The extended outage affected the Queen’s website, campus Wi-Fi, Queen’s emails, Moodle, SOLUS and the PeopleSoft system. Some pages on the Queen’s website, including department and service pages, also weren’t functioning during the extended outage.

According to a notice posted on the Queen’s website, course registration should be unaffected by the outage. Electricians were brought in to work on the issue so Queen’s IT Services (ITS) could restore the services affected, according to a Tweet by Queen’s ITS.

The Queen’s ITS Internet also tweeted at 2:13 p.m. that the campus Wi-Fi had been restored.

At 10:55 p.m., ITS confirmed in a notice on the Queen’s website that it had restored power to all Queen’s networks and that online services will begin coming back one at a time.

Open enrolment began on Sunday at midnight. Dozens of students posted in Queen’s Facebook groups and tweeted at ITS asking why they were unable to enroll in classes on SOLUS.

As of 1:09 a.m., SOLUS was stabilized, and as of 1:36 a.m. the my.queensu.ca portal was back online, according to tweets by Queen’s ITS.
