Track and field runs away with 19 medals
The track and field team claimed six gold, seven silver and six bronze medals at the Ottawa Dome Classic last weekend.
Three rookies stood out for the Gaels, with Veronica Catry setting a Queen’s record and winning silver in the women’s 200-metre race, while Leah Laroque won the women’s 1,500-metre race and Mikey Prime placed second in the men’s 400-metre race. Catry also took home silver in the women’s 60-metre race.
Another highlight for the Gaels came from third-year veteran Leslie Sexton, who turned in a strong performance in the women’s 3,000-metre race, winning gold with a time of 9:41:53. Sexton’s time beat the national standard by 13 seconds, qualifying her for the CIS Championships in March. Her time was also the fourth-best in Queen’s history.
