Rowers clean up in Ottawa

The Queen’s rowing team travelled to Ottawa for the Head of the Rideau Regatta last weekend and returned full-handed, with 14 gold, six silver and one bronze medal.

The men’s rowers won all nine golds in their races, with Morgan Jarvis finishing one second behind the course record in the Open Men’s Single.

The women’s singles saw the Gaels finish first and second, with Nicole Campbell and Connie Dayboll both finishing more than a minute ahead of the other rowers.

Another highlight of the day was the heavyweight men’s eight, who posted the fastest time of the day on the course.

The rowing team will be at Trent University this weekend for the Head of the Trent Regatta.

Field hockey picks up three points

The women’s field hockey team travelled to Toronto for three games last weekend.

On Saturday, the Gaels lost their first game 2-0 to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, the defending OUA champions.

Later in the day, the Gaels recovered to beat McGill University 3-0.

Hilary Piets and Maggie Yeomans scored in the first half for Queen’s Kirsten Jewell added an insurance goal in the second half.

On Sunday, the Gaels faced the Western Mustangs.

The Mustangs scored two early goals but Queen’s rebounded to earn a 2-2 tie with goals from Piets and Danielle Denley.

The Gaels, who have two wins, two losses and a tie, will take on the Guelph Gryphons and the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday in Oakville.
