OUA decorates squash team
Women’s squash’s Erin Roberts was named the OUA Rookie of the Year for the 2009-10 season. Roberts also received OUA women’s all-star honours on the First Team with teammate Heather Lamb. Caitlin Klein was awarded Second-Team honours and Paul Gartenburg was on the men’s first team.

Fencing to compete at OUA Championships
This weekend the fencing team will be at Carleton University to compete in the OUA Championships. After finishing first in the men’s sabre at the OUA East qualifier on Jan. 16-17 at the Royal Military College, the Gaels’ Francois Beaucage-Gauvreau will be the favourite in his category. Look for results from the OUA championship in the next issue of the Journal.

Chang qualifies for national championship
Swimmer Julian Chang will compete at CIS championships for the second consecutive year in Toronto on Feb. 18-21. Chang swam the 50-metre free swim in 23.84 in the preliminary round of the OUA championships last weekend at Brock University. The men’s team placed seventh overall on the weekend, while the women placed 10th.

Football nominated as best Ontario team
The football team has been nominated by the OUA as one of three teams eligible for the Team of the Year award presented by the Sporting Alliance of Ontario. The recipient will be named at a ceremony at Ontario Place in Toronto on Apr. 15.

Queen’s student competing in Olympics
Snowboarder Jeff Batchelor, Comm ’10, will compete in Vancouver, representing Canada in the men’s halfpipe event scheduled for Feb. 17 at Cypress Mountain. Batchelor is currently ranked second in the halfpipe category after earning a silver medal at the World Championships in Gangwon, Korea last year.
