Men’s basketball split Toronto trip
Fourth-year Gaels post Mitch Leger surpassed 1,300 career points last weekend, as the Gaels recorded one win and one loss on the road in Toronto.
A poor second half plagued the Gaels Friday night against the Ryerson Rams, as they fell 63-35. The Gaels held a slight 28-27 edge coming out of halftime, but fell victim to an anemic 21 per cent shooting average from the field.
On Saturday, another strong game from Leger and season-high performances from fifth-year guard Ryan Hairsine and second-year guard Chris Barrett helped catapult the Gaels to a 70-62 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues.
After this weekend, the Gaels sit at third place in the OUA East with a 10-9 record, far behind the first-place Carleton Ravens and second-place Ottawa Gee-Gees. The Gaels will play the Ravens and the Gee-Gees this weekend at the ARC.

Nordic skiing prepares for OUA championships
The Nordic ski team competed in their second OUA race of the season at the Nakkertok Cross-Country Ski Club in Gatineau last weekend.
First-year racer Jessica Metuzals led the effort for the Queen’s women, placing tenth in the junior women 10-kilometre classic mass start. Metuzals also placed 15th in the 10-kilometre classic mass start, and 25th in the five-kilometre free race.
Ian Scriver, who also acts as the head coach of the Nordic Ski team, had the men’s team’s top result, placing 17th in the open men 30-kilometre mass start. Scriver also placed 39th in the 10-kilometre free.
The Gaels close out their season in two weeks at the OUA championships in Guelph.

Wrestling gets ready to grapple for gold
The Queen’s wrestling team competed in their final warm-up for the OUA championships last weekend when they traveled to the University of Western Ontario to compete in the Western Open.
Top Gaels finishers include Joel Smith and Mathew Di Staulo, who finished third and fifth respectively in the men’s 57-kilogram division.
The OUA Championships will also be held at the University of Western Ontario on Feb. 20.

Women’s basketball ends winning streak at three
The Gaels’ three-game winning streak ended last weekend, losing to the Ryerson Rams and Toronto Varsity Blues.
On Friday, the Gaels came out hard against the Rams, but couldn’t hold the lead and fell 74-60.
Third-year guard Brittany Moore added 18 points to the losing effort.
Fifth-year guard Katie Guthrie added 24 points against the Blues on Saturday, with the Gaels falling 70-61. Moore added another 16 and fourth-year post Erin Skippon chipped in seven rebounds.
With a 12-8 record, the Gaels are tied for third place in the OUA East with Laurentian and Ryerson. They finish the regular season this weekend against the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the Carleton Ravens at home.
