The updates to the policy were announced on Oct. 24.

The Student Life Centre (SLC) has introduced updated policies for student bookings to ensure all event details are communicated in advance for events held within SLC spaces.

The SLC updated its Space Booking Policy for its booking platform Skedda on Oct. 23 to be in line with the Queen’s University Space Booking Policy. In light of these new requirements, SLC will enforce a strict seven-day booking policy for all student reservations, including room and table space bookings. This policy applies to all student groups and organizations affiliated with the AMS including offices, services, commissions, and ratified clubs.

“This is to ensure that we have all the details about your event before using SLC space, allow us to ask any questions should we have them, and logically plan how to best cater to the needs of the users,” SLC said in an Instagram post.

When asked to comment on the rationale behind the recent updates and changes, the AMS didn’t comment in time for publication. Instead, the AMS redirected The Journal to the SLC’s Instagram post published later in the day.

Previously, some flexibility was allowed regarding the booking timeline. However, SLC management has stated it will no longer accommodate bookings outside the seven-day requirement.

In addition to the seven-day advance booking requirement, all users are required to provide a minimum 50-word description of their event. This description should include details about the activity, items being sold or distributed, the number of representatives from the organization attending, the expected number of participants, and any external organizations the event organizers will be collaborating with.

The SLC reminded all AMS-ratified clubs they must receive event-sanctioning approval from the Campus Affairs Commissioner before their events. SGPS groups are also required to complete an event-sanctioning application form.
