The first annual Sundaze Screening Festival held at the Screening Room last night brought the Kingston film community together and is dedicated to the production of independent films. The films selected for entry in the festival were judged for technical skill, story, and overall quality. Founder Samarra MacNab hopes this will become a yearly event to encourage independent films and to give a venue for student films to be shown. Music Video/Commercial: Drinking and Driving Commercial—Laura Black. The Vendetta-Heroes of the new left— Ben Shirinian (music video).
Drama: The Tea Party— Amanda Sage. A young girl escapes from her home life into an imaginary tea party. Between Angels and Insects—Graham Misiurak. A woman kills a man then tries to convince herself she didn’t do it by fixing up the crime scene. Conscienceness—Jason Gilmore. A man sets up another man for a crime he didn’t commit for sleeping with his girlfriend. Remembering June—Ben Shirinian. A couple tries to escape a small town by stealing money and risking their lives.
Experimental: Daughter of None—Graham Misiurak. Loosely follows the bliss/horror of the afterlife. Untitled—Brett Bergman. A traveller experiences an altered state and witnesses a place in which things happen over and over.
Comedy: Terrible Thought—Matthew Gillespie. A first-year university student is stressed due to exams and people on her floor. Hitler’s Testicle—Lenny Epstein. An elderly woman worries about what she should do with the remains of Hitler: his testicles. Cableguy Superfly—Rachelle Villanueva. The trials and tribulations of a cableguy, and what happens when you steal cable. Where the Change Is—Ryan J. Noth. Two filmmakers attempt to reach the ultimate millennium party.
