From a record-length field goal by Ravens’ kicker Justin Tucker to seal the win against Detroit to a Monday Night revival of the Eagles-Cowboys rivalry, NFL football didn’t disappoint last week.
Finally, after strong performances from Josh Allen, Justin Jefferson, and Chris Carson, The Journal recorded its first win of the season and now sits at 1-2 against the Western Gazette.
Here are the picks for this week’s action.
Starters: $99
Josh Allen, Quarterback, Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen found his mid-2020 season form last week against the Washington Football Team, throwing for four touchdowns and rushing for another TD while piling up 350 yards through the air. Allen has thrown seven touchdowns and only a single interception so far this season. Facing off against the Houston Texans this week, he should continue to dazzle.
David Montgomery, Running Back, Chicago Bears
The Bears hit a low point last week against Cleveland, but Montgomery has shown flashes of brilliance this season, namely in his 108-yard effort in week one against the Rams. Facing off against a Detroit Lions defence that’s one of the worst in the league, Montgomery should see plenty of action in this outing.
D.K. Metcalf, Wide Receiver, Seattle Seahawks
D.K. Metcalf had a touchdown and a 108-yard effort against the Vikings last week while playing on nearly every offensive snap. Metcalf has recorded consistent receptions from quarterback Russell Wilson this year, and it’s likely he’ll be called upon again to deliver this week against the San Francisco 49ers.
Noah Fant, Tight End, Denver Broncos
Noah Fant has been a consistent part of the Broncos’ offense this year. Facing off against a Baltimore defence accustomed to giving up points, having allowed 35 to Kansas City and 33 to Las Vegas, Fant should have an active role in the Broncos’ game plan.
Buffalo Bills Defence
The Buffalo Bills face off against the Houston Texans this week. Coming into the game having barred any team from squeaking in more than 23 points in a game this season, it’s likely they’ll continue that pattern this time around, too.
Bench: $85
Jalen Hurts, Quarterback, Philadelphia Eagles
Jalen Hurts has been wildly inconsistent this season. He’s thrown five touchdowns and two interceptions while averaging a completion percentage in the mid-60s. Facing a Kansas City team looking to avenge their loss to the Chargers, Hurts should struggle to find success this weekend.
Saquon Barkley, Running Back, New York Giants
Saquon Barkley’s return from an ACL injury in the 2019-2020 season has limited his role on offence and he’s failed to surpass 60 yards in a game this season. Playing against a New Orleans defence that’s been strong so far, Barkley should be limited in his ability to put up points.
Amari Cooper, Wide Receiver, Dallas Cowboys
After a hot start, Amari Cooper has failed to score a touchdown over the past two games and recorded only 26 yards in a blowout win over the Eagles last week. Playing against a Carolina Panthers defence that’s held its past two opponents to under 10 points, Cooper may fail to find the end zone for the third week in a row.
Kyle Pitts, Tight End, Atlanta Falcons
Kyle Pitts—along with the rest of the Atlanta Falcons—has struggled this season. After two blowout losses, Pitts’ receptions have declined, and his average yardage remains low. Playing against a Washington Football Team defence looking to reset after a loss to Buffalo, Pitts should have a tough start.
New England Patriots Defence
The New England Patriots enter Week Four facing Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With their only win coming against the New York Jets, New England should struggle to stop a combined aerial attack from Brady, Gronkowski, Godwin, and Evans that has consistently run up the scoreboard this year.
