The incoming AMS executive team has yet to reveal any of their senior management hires for the upcoming school year.

The delay of this announcement is due to three positions remaining open, specifically Director of Marketing, Social Issues Commissioner (Internal)—which close on March 30—and Studio Q Head Manager, which closes on April 10.

“For confidentiality within the hiring process, we’re not publicly announcing any [hires] just so that we can have that backbone of cohesiveness, and everyone feels that they’re just as valuable members of the team,” incoming AMS President Kate McCuaig said in an interview with The Journal.

In the past, the incoming executive team typically announced their senior management team in early March.

The delay in hiring for these May-start positions can impact students applying for these roles, particularly as it shortens the transition period and coincides with exam season.

“Commissioner hiring has gone very successfully. Currently, we are filling the last of the six roles with the Social Issues Commissioner (Internal) and we are conducting those interviews in the next couple of days,” incoming Vice-President (University Affairs) Victoria Mills said to The Journal.

“We feel as though there’s an extreme benefit to [announcing all the hires] at the same time.”

Incoming Vice-President (Operations) Michelle Hudson said almost all the positions have been filled on the services end.

“We are hopefully moving on to service staff and volunteer interviews later this week and finishing up supervisor interviews this week,” Hudson told The Journal.

The incoming executives said the AMS’s Human Resources (HR) staff are offering them a lot of support during the hiring process.

“This year, we’ve had such great support from the HR Department in itself and building a lot of these timelines before the election was even complete,” McCuaig said.

Permanent HR staff have taken on a larger lead role in the HR department at the AMS this year, which has created a firmer structure around the hiring process, McCuaig explained.

Mills said having HR as a proactive provider of onboarding materials for new staff members at all levels is a crucial support cornerstone.

She explained this approach will be highly beneficial for new hires, who will receive the necessary resources upon completing the hiring process and will immediately be working for the AMS.

Team KMV is nonetheless confident the new hires will have a smooth transition into their new roles, eased by transition manuals prepared by staff in outgoing positions.
