Very insightful article. I love how the author sets aside that “sense of self-righteousness” in order to connect with her patients..as equally human…from a place of humility, care and genuine understanding of their plight to receive medical care that their own communities have not been able to dispense.. Perhaps one of the solutions to the “change* which she speaks of , is the re-learning of their own lost indigenous healing practices by the communities being served, as well as, the learning some of those practices by the medical brigades. That way both parties can share in a mutual respect and empowerment to solve any challenges. I think the young doctor is on her way to being a medical practitioner that truly cares about those that come to her to be healed.
