Dean of Student Affairs Bob Crawford, and Vice-principal (academic) Suzanne Fortier have informed the University they will not be seeking another term.
Both administrators will end their tenures in June. Both positions are five-year terms.
Selection committees to replace Crawford and Fortier are underway.
The selection committee to replace Crawford is chaired by Fortier and includes three student representatives: AMS President Tyler Turnbull, Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS) President Sam Hosseini and Rector Ahmed Kayssi were appointed to the 14-member committee.
“Without a doubt this is one of the most important administrative positions to the undergraduate society,” said Turnbull. “This is someone that student leaders have a lot of contact with.”
Turnbull was not allowed to speak openly about the process due to a confidentiality contract.
Principal Karen Hitchcock will accept recommendations for the vice-principal (academic) selection committee members.
Crawford was appointed Dean of Student Affairs when the position was created in 1995.
The dean serves as an administrator who represents student concerns and interests. The portfolio covers aspects which included career services, the International centre and Town-gown. It is also a liaison between student government and the administration.
Crawford came to the University in 1972 to serve as a professor in the Computing and Information Science faculty.
Fortier joined the University in 1982 as an assistant professor in chemistry.
After serving several other administrative positions, including Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and acting vice-principal (research), she was appointed to vice-principal (academic) in 2000.
She continues to be a professor for the Chemistry department as well as the Computing and Information Science department.
