AMS executive candidates faced off in a debate held over Zoom on Wednesday evening for their final discussion prior to the election next week.There are two teams running for AMS executive this year. The first is Team RTZ: Presidential candidate Zaid Kasim, Sci ’21; Vice-Presidential (Operations) candidate Tiana Wong, ArtSci ’21; and Vice-Presidential (University Affairs) candidate Ryan Sieg, Kin ’21.

As voting closed Monday night, Vivian Yang was announced the next residence society (ResSoc) vice-president of judicial affairs the following morning via email.

Jaya Sharma, BHSc ’24, and Seyon Shelvachandren, Nurs ’24, are competing for the position of Undergraduate Trustee in this year’s election.

Presidential candidate, Alyth Roos, ArtSci ’22, and Vice-President candidate Brandon Aldworth, ArtSci ’23, are the only team running in the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society’s executive election this year.

Students competing for the position of Residence Society (ResSoc) Vice-President of Judicial Affairs (VPJA) went head-to-head in a virtual debate Sunday night.The debate saw the two VPJA candidates—Helen Wang, Comm ’22, and Vivian Yang, Sci ’22 and BEd ’23—answer a series of moderated questions over Zoom. The questions were posed by Eliot Little, deputy electoral officer, and Julia Guest, vice-president of residence affairs. 

AMS Assembly officially approved two teams for AMS executive and two candidates for Undergraduate Trustee Friday evening on Zoom.

Though today is the first official day of the campaign for Undergraduate Trustee candidates, Seyon Shelvachandren said he’s “procrastinating” on his campaign.

The candidates that make up Team RTZ are coming from an outside perspective—not one of them has been directly involved with the AMS in their prior years at Queen’s.Team RTZ consists of Presidential candidate Zaid Kasim, Sci ’21, Vice-Presidential (Operations) candidate Tiana Wong, ArtSci ’21, and Vice-Presidential candidate (University Affairs) Ryan Sieg, Kin ’21.In an interview with The Journal, Kasim said he’s running for AMS President because of his frustration with the organization. 

Should they be elected next year’s AMS executive, Team TIA has plans to improve accessibility at Queen’s.
