It’s not long until Parliament resumes sitting in Ottawa. After a 31-day delay by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the legislative agenda is being reset with a Speech from the Throne — to set the government’s course for the next two years.
Yet the opposition in the House of Commons has been preparing for the return just as much, as they plan to hit hard and fast at the institution down the hall they feel is decrepit and has seen its day — the Senate.

I’m told most competitive trampolinists aspire to be like their Olympian idols. After just an hour of the basics, so do I.

A post-classic rock band from Montreal, Plants and Animals is comprised of guitarists-vocalists Warren Spicer and Nic Basque along with drummer-vocalist Matthew Woodley. The band isn’t new to Kingston.

The living room doubles as a stage, art gallery and soon-to-be yoga studio.

School has been underway for a while now, and many people have happily reunited with their partners after the long months of summer. But if you have a partner who isn’t in town, you’re probably starting to miss them a lot. Whether your partner lives two hours away, or on the opposite side of the globe, the distance can be difficult. But with the popularity of online dating and social media, people in long distance relationships can now stay connected better than ever before.

London packed a fashion punch this year, with standout shows left, right and center. Three in particular stood out, each with very different approaches to spring fashion trends. Moschino, Temperley London and Burberry Prorsum each showcased their fashion expertise, and why they’re not going anywhere anytime soon.

As we embrace our favourite things about fall, the fashion world is looking to the future as designers begin to showcase their Spring/Summer 2014 collections. Runway season kicked off earlier this month at New York Fashion Week (NYFW), where there was no shortage of refreshing looks and trends to dominate our wardrobes come April.
Here are some of the top things showcased on the runways of NYFW:

Sometimes, with the right amount of encouragement, a hobby can flourish into a crafty business.
School-spirited gear is nothing new at Tricolour Outlet, located on the second floor of the JDUC, yet the girls behind these handmade products illustrate how a creative hobby, such as decorative painting or crocheting, can be fashioned into a rewarding part-time job.
I sat with Julie Toth, ArtSci ’16, and Laura Stemp, ArtSci ’15, to learn about the inspiration behind their products.

The Experimental Lakes Area (ELA), a unique research site in Northwestern Ontario consisting of 58 freshwater lakes, will remain open despie recent questions about its future.
Its federal funding was cut last year to save money, and it was suspected that the ELA would shut down altogether. However, earlier this month, it was announced that two parties are working together to keep the famous research site functioning, although it might take a while for it to once again operate at full capacity.

A new exhibit on campus puts truth behind the saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

Zucchini bread is a must-try for those who resolve to keep their palettes clean and their minds guilt-free – or at least this early in the school year. Treating yourself in the kitchen doesn’t have to compromise a health-conscious lifestyle, especially when you combine vegetables in your baking.

It’s to be expected that the only photography club on campus begets a tight-knit group of photographers, all set on helping each other learn their craft.
From BFA students who sculpt and paint photo subjects to student photojournalists, Photo-Ops hosts a diverse and broad array of members, all eager to host photography classes and drop-in studio themed workshops.
With snakes and dancers used to create powerful conceptual work last year, it’s hard to anticipate what other intricate subjects and props will be used this year.

When the toaster suddenly starts smoking, generally the response is “oh s**t!” as one rushes to unplug it. That’s one of the philosophies behind proroguing parliament.
However, in recent years, the act of prorogation has taken on a negative connotation and some regard it as anti-democratic. Yet, this tool of democracy has existed for hundreds of years and has been used numerous times in Canada’s history. So, can prorogation be democratic and anti-democratic? Do we really need to unplug the toaster?

It’s a well-known fact that Aaron Carter, child pop star and hip-hop artist, has often been reflected negatively in the media. It’s time, he says, to change that.
