Both teams pick up momentum coming home for Seniors night.

This past weekend, Gaels teams took a rare road trip where hotels weren’t needed.

Both Men and Women’s volleyball travelled on a rather short bus ride across the Lasalle Causeway to their Kingston USports neighbour, the RMC Paladins. The two varsity teams have boasted excellent starts coming out of the holiday break and looked to continue their success.

On the Men’s side, after a split in London against the Western Mustangs the weekend before, it was important for the Gaels to stay atop of the OUA standings. The first game on Jan. 23 ended in 3-0 victory, a key contributor was the great service play with twelve aces as a team. The second game on Jan. 24 also featured a 3-0 sweep to make the Gaels 12-4 on the season, sitting in third place in the OUA.

Queens Men’s volleyball libero, Carter Sedgewick, ArtSci ’27, spoke with The Journal about the excitement of the weekend. “All 18 players and coaches were engaged and feeding each other energy which made the weekend so fun,” Sedgewick said. He continued to say that the team’s “looking forward to continue competing together as a family.”

The Gaels continue to remain ninth in USports rankings as they prepare for the final two home games at the ARC against the McMaster Marauders on Jan. 30 and 31.

On the Women’s side, a bye week after a big two wins against the Guelph Gryphons at home, the Gaels looked to stay in the pack with a very tight OUA standings.

Their first game on Jan. 23 was complete and utter domination, holding the Paladins to just 16 total points across the three games, leading a match victory. The second game on Jan. 24 was another 3-0 win, highlighted by a big performance from Abigail McAlpine, ArtSci ’26, with 16 kills.

With the two wins, the Gaels sit sixth in the OUA with a 9-5 record as they two prepare for their final two homes games of the season on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. and Jan. 31 4 p.m. against the McMaster Marauders.
