The SGPS has regained a full executive team after six months of vacancy.
Following an uncontested by-election for the Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS) Vice-President (Finance and Services) position, Nan Ma, JD ’27, has been elected to the role for the remainder of the year. 94.5 per cent, or 769 individuals, voted in favour of her appointment. 5.5 per cent, or 45 individuals, voted against, with another 199 abstaining. The election saw a 20.5 per cent turnout, with 1013 of 4943 eligible electors voting on the ballot. The vote opened on Oct. 9 and concluded on Oct. 10.

Her appointment follows the resignation of Oishik Bhattacharya, who resigned in March after deciding he wouldn’t be continuing at Queen’s in the following academic year. Before her election, the duties of the Vice-President were fulfilled by the 2024-25 occupant of the position, Katie Zutautas. Ma, who was the Deputy Speaker when nominations for the role were opened, stepped in at the last minute to ensure the role wasn’t vacant.

She will be fulfilling the remainder of the term until April 31 when a new team is elected during the SGPS’s winter election.
