In an uncontested election for the Residence Society (ResSoc), all candidates were elected to their respective positions. The results were announced in a ceremony in Ban Righ Hall on Tuesday.
419 students in residence voted in this election, meaning 8.9 per cent of eligible students participated. In an election where less than 9.9 per cent of the eligible voting population participates, all candidates need at least 65 per cent of the vote to win their respective elections.
The residence building with the highest voter turnout was Brant House, with 23 per cent of residents voting in this election. Leonard Hall had the second-highest voter turnout with 13 per cent of eligible voters participating.
Nathan Beckner-Stetson ran for the position of president and CEO of ResSoc. In his race, he won with 310 votes in his favour—84.2 percent of the vote—with 58 votes against him and 51 abstentions.
After the announcement of his victory, Beckner-Stetson said he was excited about the job ahead.
“There’s a lot of work we’re going to have to do. A lot of things that I would like to get done. I’m going to get down to it as soon as possible,” Beckner-Stetson told The Journal.
Alison Wong ran for vice-president (society operations) and won with 292 votes in their favour. There were 84 “no” votes, which is 22.3 per cent of the votes cast, and 43 abstaining votes.
In a brief statement to The Journal, Wong said, “I’m looking forward to next year”
For the position of vice-president (residence operations), Teagan Schuck won with 261 votes in her favour, which is 72.5 per cent of the vote. A total of 99 “no” votes were cast with 59 abstentions.
Schuck was not present at the announcement ceremony and could not make a statement to The Journal at the time.
