It’s no question that Toronto has an abundance to offer when it comes to summer entertainment. If you’re looking for some new summer locations that are sure to hit the spot, then look no further.
Whether you’re looking for a chill night out or something more adventurous, this short list ensures that you find something that will leave you wanting to trek downtown again and again.
Beers at Bellwoods
If you’re missing the social vibes of the Kingston pier, Trinity Bellwoods is the perfect place to fill that void. Everyone and their mother come out on a nice sunny day. Bring a blanket, some speakers, and a few of your closest pals, and you’re sure to have an amazing time.
Didn’t bring enough snacks for everyone? No worries! There are a few amazing restaurants across the street on the south side, including Hooky’s and Matty’s Patty’s.
Hooky’s is a Toronto fish and chips institution, which incredible fries and three different types of fish to suit any budget. Matty’s Patty’s serves up one of the best burgers in Toronto. The “Matty’s” burger is what a Big Mac should be, and they serve beer on their patio. Truly, it’s the perfect spot to grab a bite and relax.
Pennie’s Patio
Pennie’s Patio has the cutest patio and some of the cheapest drinks in Toronto, ultimately making for the best time ever. Pennie’s is one of Toronto’s best gems. You can’t miss the bright yellow house located on Strachan and Adelaide.
Their menu mainly consists of sliders and tater tots, with lots of vegetarian options. They have deals all through the week and, best of all, the patio is dog friendly. You are sure to see lots of friendly pups cozied up on the picnic benches next to their owners.
Ripley’s Aquarium
On a rainy day or during a heat wave, I’d recommend escaping the crazy Toronto weather with a trip to Ripley’s Aquarium. If you want to avoid the crowds of families, book a ticket before the beginning of July, while schools are still in session.
If you’re looking for a more unique experience—or the chance to really impress your date—Ripley’s hosts Friday Night Jazz on the second Friday of every month, where you can enjoy all the regular perks of a trip to the aquarium with an added bonus.
Tom’s Dairy Freeze
Tom’s Dairy Freeze is hands down the best ice cream in Toronto—it has a mile-long line down the Queensway for a reason. It’s a bit of a hike from downtown Toronto, but no distance is far enough to keep me away from Tom’s Ice Cream.
This place encompasses all the nostalgia and joy of seeing an ice cream truck roll up on a hot summer day. It’s almost overwhelming seeing the number of choices they provide. From banana splits to sundaes, their famous flavour bursts, and pints of ice cream, you’re sure to find something you’ll fall in love with.
Campechano
If you’re looking for the best tacos in the city, look no further than Campechano. A super cozy patio, incredible, and a pitcher of margaritas, anyone?
Campechano has at least 10 different types of tacos for you to choose from, each one even better than the next. They have lots of vegetarian friendly options. I’d highly recommend their spicy margaritas and Mexican sodas.
This spot is ideal because it’s so close to both Queen Street and King Street. Make sure to venture off and find some good spots—they’re just around the corner.
