Tap Card Rollout
Queen’s has begun distributing new tap-enabled student cards to approximately 14,000 students over the winter term, after first-year students received the first batch of cards at the beginning of the fall term. The replacement program will see older stickered cards phased out, with affected students notified directly by email.

The new cards support tap access on Kingston Transit, eliminate annual stickers, and retain all existing card functions.
As part of the update, students will have the option to print a preferred first name on their card by updating their information in SOLUS before printing. Card pickups are expected to take place between February and April.
International Research Recruitment
Queen’s has launched a recruitment campaign under the federal Canada Impact+ Research Talent Initiative to attract international research leaders to the University. The initiative is part of a $1.7 billion federal investment announced in late 2025 to recruit researchers to Canada in priority areas such as advanced digital technologies, climate resilience, advanced materials, and health.
As part of the program, Queen’s is recruiting for Canada Impact+ Research Chairs, which provide either $8 million or $4 million in funding over eight years, with a possible four-year extension. Chairholders are expected to lead “high-impact research programs” and build strong national and international partnerships.
Additional streams include funding for early-career researchers, research infrastructure, and doctoral and postdoctoral training awards. Queen’s has been allocated 15 training awards, with applications due Feb. 9.
Vice-Provost and University Librarian Reappointment
Mark Asberg has indicated his interest in seeking a second term as Vice-Provost and University Librarian, with his current term set to conclude on June 30, 2026. Asberg has held the role since May 1, 2021.
An advisory committee is being formed to gather feedback and make a recommendation on the reappointment. The committee will be chaired by Vice-Provost (Academic Affairs) Lynne Postovit, with membership details to be announced.
