Meet the beanie. Last September, Stephen Jones’ veiled beanies for Jil Sander started cropping up all over the streets on the heads of models and fashion insiders. What makes these hats so coveted is the alluring combination of retro-mystique veils and modern day slouchy beanies. However at a steep price of $500, I sought a DIY alternative.

Dear QJAdvice: The holidays are coming up and I’m at a loss for what to get my girlfriend. Her and I have very different budgets (she likes to spend $100+ on a present, while I have a much smaller budget.) I tried to suggest that we establish a price limit but she was against it. I’m worried that my gift won’t be good enough. Lawrence F.

This year’s Sci Formal brought the glitz and glamour, living up to its reputation as one of Queens’ most sought after events.
With Las Vegas-themed decorations, a chocolate fountain, an assortment of live music and hundreds of glamorously adorned students, it’s clear why the formal is considered one of the top 10 formal events in North America.

This event, which has been ongoing since 1903, is open mostly to those in their final years of undergraduate studies in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Tomorrow, the citizens of the US will vote to elect their president. Most predictions have Barack Obama winning the contest as he’s maintained his lead in the critical state of Ohio. The fight for Ohio has been exhaustive. Both campaigns have upped their spending there in recent weeks and both candidates are touring the state in hopes of inspiring undecided or unmotivated voters.

I am a self-diagnosed foodie (although let’s be honest, who isn’t these days). Cookbooks were once the place you’d look to for images of meals and desserts, however the Internet has caused them to become increasingly obsolete. Today, whether it’s on Pinterest, Tumblr, Facebook or Foodgawker, food porn abounds in social media. So what constitutes food porn?

An art exhibit can sometimes assault your eyes, but not often assault your ears as well.

Union Gallery is going to look a lot different this year than it has in the past.

Dental dams, a sheet of latex designed to be a barrier between you and your partner’s genitals during cunnilingus or analingus, aren’t the most accessible safer sex products. They’re $1 a pop at the SHRC, and they’re not even carried at Drugsmart or the two Shopper’s Drugmarts close to campus. But as we mentioned in a previous blog, practicing safer oral sex with your partner(s) by using a dental dam is important if you’re hoping to prevent the transmission of STIs.

To ditch the wheat, to not ditch wheat…

Why be all or nothing? Rather than eliminating gluten all together (and consequently many of your favourite foods, try incorporating gluten-free eating, one meal at a time.

Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen presentations are highly visual displays. Sarah Burton’s creations were one of the most memorable of the season, inspired by shapes and textures found in nature.

Sometimes I’m convinced that the things I see trending on Twitter can’t be real life.
Unfortunately, a cancer rumour that led to numerous Justin Bieber fangirls shaving their heads was a reality. Ridiculous? Yes, but it seriously happened.
